I'm Nobody!

I'm Nobody!
Tell me, who are you?
Are you somebody, or are you nobody too?
If you're not somebody, well that makes two
But hush, don't tell, or they'd banish us
You know it's true
What a thing to be somebody, if I may
On your soapbox lily pad just like a frog
To croak out your name all the live-long day
To the slosh and the cheer of a brainwashed bog
It's true

The Orchard

I can see apple trees out in the distance
Long, tall, ugly, scraggly things
And they might look like death, but we look like life
So why should it matter?

The soldier said '"I haven't walked
But seven miles since I came"
Don't tell me you appreciate me
Try at least to learn my name
The simple fact that I'm employed
The complex act of facing shame
When all the love has been deployed
What fighting heart can I avoid?
I missed love but love was patient
I was cruel but it was kind
I had gone and lost my way
But love won't let me lose my mind
I hurt you once, I hurt you twice
A third and fourth will come again
As long as I can tell it to
A man who can erase my sin
Or maybe to a man who knows
My mission and how it began
I would put you on my shoulders
Just to get you into heaven
Even if I never made it
Well, that's all I ever wanted
One judgement day, it has been set
In place by human faces here
They brandish self-diluted truths
As weapons to my heavy boots
All this watered down destruction
Labeled least of all corruption
Any bullet fired that I recall
Was sent from those in corporate suits
Any bullet fired that I recall
was sent to those in combat boots
I would put you on my shoulders...
If I could, I would go back
And lay in place of those who bled
But I was told to hold my own
Against the drones that want me dead
I must say, I disobeyed
When I jumped in to take your place
I'd lay on seventeen grenades
Guess that'd get me ample grace
I would put you on my shoulders...

A Day
03:00

I'll tell you how the sun it rose in ribbons one by one
The steeples swam in amethyst, the news like squirrels on the run
The hills untied their bonnets and the bobolinks begin
They took a beat and spoke to me, "That must've been the sun"
And sang aloud the only tune that I had ever known
How it set, well I don't know. There seemed a purple stile
Which little yellow boys and girls were climbing all the while
'Till when they reached the other side, a dominie in gray
Put gently up the evening bars and led the flock away
I waited for the sun to rise in ribbons once again
The morning next, to my surprise, the night would have no end
Despite the pressing darkness, the tune was sung again

Mama don't cry when I'm gone
Not a tear, I'll be back before long
They just signed that paper in the hall
I'm answering the call and I'm marching on
And I'm marching on
Practicing death for the battle ahead
Brothers now with a fury unfed
We sacrifice morals to boost morale
Gunpowder in our blood and we're marching on
And we're marching on
I can hear the beat of the drum
The fire and the smoke from the barrel of a gun
Its lone companion in my side
I join in the battle cry for my mother at home
And I'm marching on
In the forest I lie until I'm dead and gone
And the battle goes on

I, I know now, everything
That I thought I told you
And I had grown out of the fantasy
Of seeing myself next to you
Hope, don't worry
'Cause everything will happen as it will do
Slow, don't hurry
'Cause anything can happen, but what can we do?
It doesn't really matter what you say
'Cause at the end of the day, I tried to do
My very best for you
They have moved to bigger and better things
At least the ones that needed to
Spades and diamonds joining clubs
Can't a heart just follow suit?
It doesn't really matter what you say
'Cause at the end of the day, I tried to do
My very best for you

Real Thoughts
03:02
|
|

Keep me in your mind
And heart the way you’d like
I have no better words to say
Besides, it’s the end of the day
When real thoughts have taken place, what can I say?
We’ve boarded up these fantasies
No longer will most of them bother me
Take your turn, learn your lessons
I’ve got extra pleas but I’m fresh out of questions
What else can I do?
When real thoughts have taken hold of doubt within you
Keep me in your mind
And heart the way you’d like

Moonshine Kids
05:07

And our parents look around
Only aided by the moonshine on the ground
And the liquor in their hands
Running after us and they can barely stand
I've got new shoes
We've got no time to lose
Black shirt, black hat
Tonight we're going back to the woods
And we'll be gone for good
And our parents look around
Only aided by the moonshine on the ground
And the liquor in their hands
Running after us and they can barely stand
We are the moonshine kids
Running from just like mom & papa did
Running back to our kingdom in the woods
To our palace in the trees
And we'll be gone for good
Straight up, I see
Some wood and rope from the canopy
I've been here many times before
To the top, and I'm elevated forevermore
If tomorrow there's a breeze
If the leaves on the trees are dripping
You can tell them we've had our fill
The last of a guardian was lost in a spiral still
We are the moonshine kids...
We can make whatever sound
We can keep whatever we find lying around
Like a scepter from a branch
And a crown on our heads
And we will rule this land 'cause
We are the moonshine kids...
We are the moonshine kids
Running from our mom & papa for what they did
We run our kingdom in the woods
Oh our palace in the trees
And we'll be gone for good
